This year, the library will be hosting two events for Open Access Week. Two will be in person events discussing open access with faculty and graduate students. It is a great opportunity to learn more, find new perspectives and get to know librarians.
Open Access Week is an international week of action that takes place all over the world in late October. This year it will be held from October 24 – 30, 2016. SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) announced that the theme for 2016 will be “Open in Action”.
Each event on TTU campus will go over the threshold concepts of open access for clarification, with the exception of the Upload-a-thon.
Texas Tech University Library hosted events:
The “Open in Action” theme will also highlight the researchers, librarians, students, and others who have made a commitment to working in the open and how that decision has benefited them—from researchers just starting their careers to those at the top of their field.
Open Access Week Kick-Off
10/25/2016 1:00 PM
TDPLC Room 151
Texas Tech University Libraries will host a kickoff event for Open Access Week 2016. The event will be held in the Teaching, Learning and Professional Development Center from 1-3 pm on Tuesday, October 25th. It will be a moderated panel where researchers who have published open access will discuss their experiences and motivation for making their work open. This event is targeted toward faculty and graduate students, but staff and interested undergraduates are also welcome.
Send a citation and accepted version (peer-reviewed, unformatted manuscript– often a word document) of your most recent article to your personal librarian. The Office of Scholarly Communication will look into the policies of the journal and make the deposit for you. It’s 100% copyright compliant, all major publishers already allow this practice, it’s very easy, and you can start to see how greater availability increases the exposure and impact of your work.
Open Access Week Closing Reception
Library Room 309 3:30-5pm
Join us for an informal celebration of Open Access Week, featuring resources at the library that can support TTU campus with open access publishing. Refreshments, including wine, will be served.
